Ian Leader: There is a defacto standard for moving content between e-learning authoring tools, content management systems and delivery / tracking systems is call PENS. But I do wonder why the authors didn’t use an existing Internet standard such as RSS or ATOM as the underlying protocol.

Since the article was published, I noticed in Lars Trieloff’s Collaberation Blog that Microsoft, IMB and EMC have introduced a standard for content management interoperability (CMIS), which is based on ATOM – so we’re clearly not the only ones thinking about things this way (although not everyone involved in ATOM is happy with the way the standard has been presented so far).
